Sometimes Hangeng goes back to China for an undefined period of time. Sometimes he goes back to meet his parents, sometimes he goes back to take care of the visa issues. Now he goes back because the SJM promotions have just kicked off, and they both know it won’t take more than a couple of weeks before he is back in Korea again.

It still doesn’t mean Heechul needs to be happy about it. He whines, he grumbles, he throws a few proper tantrums. He swears he will never speak to Hangeng again, threatens to change the locks while he is away and throw his belongings out of the window.

He wakes up at 4:30 to fix them both a strong cup of coffee. Even though he doesn’t need to be up in another three hours. Hangeng knows better and doesn’t say anything. He simply takes the offered mug, kicking the nearest chair a bit so he can sit down easily.

Just when he is about to take a sip of his coffee, something catches his attention and he stops with the mug millimetres away from his lips. Heechul is gazing straight at him. And Heechul has that look in his eyes.

Hangeng knows that look. He knows that something is up, but that doesn’t mean he can predict it accurately. With Heechul, you hardly ever can. He still isn’t certain if he even wants to know but he can’t stop himself from asking. ”What is it?” There. The die is cast.

Slowly, Heechul turns around with the coffee mug between his palms, his long fingers curled around the white porcelain. He is smiling, that half-smile-half-smirk of his that only lifts the right corner of his mouth. ”If I could, I would turn you into a cat!” He nods resolutely, as if it’s the best idea in the whole wide world.

Hangeng doesn’t quite get it, though, so he quirks an eyebrow questioningly. Heechul sighs. It’s quite obvious he thinks everyone should follow his flawless logic. He has mercy on Hangeng, this time, and explains willingly. “Then you would never leave my side. I’d have you in my bed at the snap of my fingers!” As if to show what he means, he snaps his fingers once.

Alright, that is quite a good reason, and Hangeng can’t help but smile slightly, amused. He tilts his head a bit, steeling his expression until he can blink innocently at the other man, who is still looking back at him expectantly. “But wouldn’t that count as bestiality?”

“Ew!” Heechul’s eyes widen in an instant and he waves his hand almost frantically. “Stop that! Otherwise I will stab you in the eye with a spoon.”

Hangeng doesn’t miss a beat, still looking as innocent as ever. “Now after that it would be necrophilia.”

“Who taught you horrible words like that!?” The right corner of Heechul’s full mouth is twitching and it is hard to say if he’s more amused or appalled. Actually, he even looks impressed, a wee bit proud.

“You did.” This time Hangeng doesn’t even try to hold back his grin, even if he still half-hides it behind his mug. He is just enjoying his coffee before it gets cold, yes.

“Oh.” Heechul purses his lips, obviously re-considering his bright idea. After a couple of seconds he shrugs, emptying the rest of his morning coffee into the sink. “I guess I have enough cats as it is. They are too damn stubborn anyway.”

Their eyes meet, matching grins plastered on their lips.
